Early History of Woonsocket Brush Co.

The Woonsocket Brush Company was founded in 1835. Among the early owners of the firm were John W. Abbott, who was proprietor of the Company from 1875-1884 and from 1884-1909 Walter S. Thayer was  proprietor. In 1909 the firm was purchased and re-organized by Dr. George A. Reichenberg and Vincent E.Allen. 

The principal line of brushes manufactured in the early years was industrial and mainly serving the textile industry. In later years the toilet-ware and novelty brush lines were added.

In 1917, the business was enlarged with the acquisition of the United Brush Company of Attleboro, MA. and in 1940 the Company acquired the assets of  General Brush Inc, of Woonsocket,RI.

The Woonsocket Brush Company was incorporated on Jan. 4,1924.

Since the incorporation in 1924 the principal line of business has been the manufacturing and supplying of brushes for the industrial/ textile brush trade  – silver gift trade – and the repair and custom brush needs of the medical field and personal brush trade.
